Wedge prisms are high-precision optical wedge components widely used forlaser beam steering, fixed-angle beam deviation, and laser beam shaping in industrial and scientific optical systems. When two matched wedge prisms are assembled in pairs, they form a Risley prism system for adjustable omnidirectional beam deflection and elliptical laser beam correction.

Also known as optical wedges, these components have wedge angles ranging from near-zero up to 3°. They are widely used for laser beam control, distance measurement and adjustable focusing.
Precision Beam Deflection
Paired wedge prisms form a Risley set for fine beam adjustment. Rotating the two prisms against each other changes beam direction: identical alignment maximizes deflection, while opposite alignment eliminates refraction. Adjusting the separation between the prism assembly and laser source also shifts the beam, which works well for aerial and space photography with varying target distances.
Tunable Focus Control
Two wedges sliding in opposite directions deliver adjustable focusing. It keeps objects at different distances in sharp focus on one focal plane, perfect for shooting fast-moving subjects.
High-Precision Ranging
Integrated into rangefinders, wedge prisms combine images from two telescopes to deliver accurate distance measurements.
